Camp JB MAC

Presented by Youthland Academy

Week of: July 7th-11th our theme is "Olympics"

Let's prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympics! Instead of just watching the Olympics on TV, we will be hosting our very own fun and games here at Camp JB MAC. Campers will divide into groups to represent different countries. Each group will make their own flag and then square off in various competitions throughout the week. On Friday we wil have our closing ceremony and everyone will receive a medal!

Arts & Crafts: Wood Medals

Our camp guest this week is a martial arts instructor. The campers will learn some special moves this week!

Week of: July 14th-18th our theme is "Under the Sea"

Who doesn't love a day at the beach? We know we are miles from the nearest lake or ocean, but that won't stop us from having some fun in the sun. We will be creating our very own sandcastle fortresses and relaxing in the sun as we have a beach volleyball tournament. However, don't worry we won't stay beached all week as we also will be taking a closer look at those animals swimming in the water. Be prepared to make your very own octopus and other crazy under the sea creatures.

Arts & Crafts: Toilet paper roll sea creatures, paper plate fish, paper bag octopus, underwater sea life collage

Week of: July 21st-25th our theme is "Safety Week"

Being safe doesn't have to be boring. With a little help from our local fire and police departments, we will be learning some important safety rules but with a twist. We will create our very own fire paintings and first aid kits. Also, we won't be just blindly doing what safety signs tell us to do, we will instead take on the challenge of making our very own signs to help guide our friends and family to stay safe.

Arts & Crafts: Fire spatter painting, Safety Vests, Clay Road designs and First Aid Kits

Our camp guests this week are Office Don McClaughlin, the Deerfield Police & Fire departments. We will get to see up close what it's like inside a police car and meet a rescue dog.

Week of: July 28th-August 1st

Is a scientist really mad or just way into their projects? Have you ever wondered what happends when you put a piece of Mentos candy into a bottle of pop? Get ready to put on your very own lab coat as we turn camp into a huge laboratory. We will be making volcano's explode and be traveling back to the 70's as we make groovy lava lamps. Also, you will soon be able to frighten your family and friends as you create your own slimy goo.

Arts & Crafts: Lava lamps, making "goo" & Tie-Dye T shirts

Our camp guest this week is a visit from Mr. Lynch, a chemist who will demonstrate how to make a tennis ball shatter and a rose crumble.

More information about the science demonstrations is available here. Demonstration Information
